At the heart of this new edition of the Lyon Biennial, curated by Alexia Fabre, human relations are considered in their contemporary stakes, their plurality, their amplitude and their rituals, in order to explore and extend the practices of hospitality. This project, dedicated to welcoming others, is rooted in the natural and human geography of the greater Lyon area. This geography, this landscape, is eminently induced by the watercourses that irrigate their banks, nourish them with their alluvial deposits, enable products to be peddled and exchanged, transport people and generate encounters, and finally come together to become stronger. Rivers carry tales of journeys and discoveries, of influence and confluence, like currents that carry us towards the challenges of hospitality.
In the heart of a region that has long defended artists by inviting them to produce and meet a wide public, this edition of the biennial is also a time to reflect on the role and power of artists to reveal and intervene in the world.
